arbres et lumières
Tonight I took my tripod out to take some shots of this 'arbres et lumières' exhibit in Geneva. There are several light installations in the town, but with my flu & headache, I could not walk too far. So this was the closest one I could get, and here it is.

Glass menageries
These were spotted in a window display at a shop in Murano where they are famous for their glassblowing art. Each figurine was about 3cm!

FLA again
This small island town where it's famous for their hand-woven lacework, was such a déja vu experience for me, as it looked so much like the Flushed Away set!

calle acqua
We celebrated our wedding anniversary in Venice. This city is so charming and lovely, different than my previous visit as a student backpacker. I'll post some pics in the coming days.

Recyclebin Art
We bought these IKEA plastic bins to organize our obsessive recycling lifestyle here in Switzerland. Since all three were exactly the same and plain, we needed a way to distinguish one from the other, so I decided to give each bin a characteristic look. I could have just painted 'PAPER', 'BOTTLES & CANS', and 'PLASTIC BAGS', but in case we use the bins for other purposes in the future, I wanted to keep the theme generic. Hence the three different paintings.
I painted the sky background and the branch, then glued on the flowers which are actually the Japanese textile cutouts. We use this one for storing all our plastic bags.
This was a spontaneous inspiration from a trip to Provence. This one is for all types of paper.
This one is special because the painting shows all six cats that we had at one point in our house attic. One cold winter, the mother cat took a refuge in our attic, and soon after we discovered that she gave birth to five kittens! Now the mother and the three others (Pumpkin, Mustard, Dusty) have either passed away or gone missing in action. We currently have two friendly cats (Green eyes and Halloween), and an extra stray cat whom we call Totoro. This bin is used for all the bottles, cans, and aluminums.

Hamish, the highland bull
I love furry, fluffy animals! Nope, not feathers, scales, nor slimy skins.

Last Judgement
Last weekend, we visited Hôtel-Dieu in Beaune and saw this amazing polyptych painted by a dutch artist named Rogier van der Weyden, a contemporary of Jan van Eyck. The details were painstakingly finished and amazing, such that there was this fancy, mobile magnifying-lens to see all the technicalities. I couldn't help trailing the lens while the docent kept moving it around the painting. Beaune, France Mai 2008

Kick off for Euro 2008
This summer, Switzerland and Austria are hosting Euro 2008 soccer championship. Being immersed in the culture here, now I realize what a heated craze Europe has over soccer (shhh, what they insist on calling 'football')!
Geneva being one of the host cities, is warming up for the opening with this giant balloon hanging over its famous landmark, jet d'eau.
Last night, after our dinner, B and I walked over to the lake to check it out. Here's a shot of the ball slightly skewed off by the wind. Don't worry, the ball is tethered to the ground. And the flag you see, is the cantonal symbol of Geneva.

Les brunes ne comptent pas pour des prunes
This week we attended the cabaret in Perly to watch Cléa perform, and this was a group of girls who were laughing at a brunette singing this song which literally means the brunettes don't count for plums, figuratively speaking the brunettes deserve attention too! You can watch the youtube video of the original singer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fdu4jmtzb-8 Honestly, this cabaret performance was waaay better than the original;) Cabaret du Perly Avril, 2008

No man's land
Bastien just returned from ski trekking with his buddy in Sarek, north of Sweden, where they lived off of dried oatmeal and pasta for ten days in -30°C weather, pulling their own sleigh on skis. I'm glad to have him back, defrosted, along with this memory he brought back on his little Elph.

Earlier this year, I attempted my first backcountry skiing (ski de randonée). Here you can spot me going up the hill on my skis. Picture by my hubby who was way ahead of me.

The abandoned
I've been lazy this year. Bad start:) Better late than never though. These orderly chestnuts are Italian, straight from Roma, abandoned by the owner nowhere to be found.
